2-25 – Reilly Figure Drawing: Abstraction with Brian Knox

$49.00

Audit: Watch instructor warm up, demo and receive photo reference every week.

This class is a great introduction to the Reilly Method system of drawing. This system, often referred to at Watts Atelier as “The Abstraction” is a foundational part of our drawing process. The Abstraction can be thought of as a GPS system for the human figure, allowing you to navigate structure and rhythm by utilizing these intertwining, fluid system of lines. At it’s core, the Abstraction is one way to draw the figure, and it’s one method of drawing we specialize in. In this class you will be doing drawing exercises from photographs utilizing the Abstraction. Drawings will start simply, but gradually get more complex with more finished drawings being done in the final demonstrations.

Brian Knox

Brian Knox began studying full time at the atelier in 2012 and began teaching in 2015. As a student his emphasis was on logical and simple head and figure construction. As an instructor his dedication to teaching full time has allowed him to focus on finding clear explanations for complicated concepts and, when combined with his gestural/structural approach to head and figure drawing, has helped countless students tackle difficult subjects over the last 5 years. Brian’s ultimate goal is to produce a series of head and figure drawing books that rival those of the great instructors of the past (i.e. Bridgman, Loomis) but in a more modern format. Each term brings him one step closer to realizing that goal.
