Olia Warm & Cool Palette Part I

Procedure rules all in this method of gouache painting. Once again the darks are laid down first.

In the final painting for this phase the comp process begins again.
Zig's dual lighting portrait is completed.
Dual lighting can be tricky. As Jeff works this painting up to completion keep an eye on how he handles the interaction of the warms and cools.
In this continuation video Jeff will show you how to handle this dual lighting scenario.
In this video the stains are applied, and the walk up the value chain begins.
This is a fun one. Once again Jeff begins by working out a few compositional options.
Jeff brings this painting up to its final finish. Sit back and enjoy, because it is your turn shortly!
Here Jeff finishes off the value chain for this painting. Then it's on to the blending/finessing stage.
This stage is all about working up the values by inserting nicely shaped tiles. Gouache forces you to chose the correct value, and to apply it in a nicely designed tile.
This lesson starts off with the initial wash, based on the chosen comp, and works towards injecting the darkest darks.
As before, the next painting process begins with comps. Comps may seem tedious, but it only takes one painting being ruined by poor planning to drive home their importance. In this video Jeff will spend around 10 minutes on each of the 3 comps.
This painting is finished with a final bit of massaging of edges, as well as fine tuning of values.
Jeff finishes layering in this lesson, and starts to introduce some water glazing and air brush blending techniques.
The emphasis in this video lesson will be working up the chain of values, as well as dealing with the drapery and hat.
The first painting of this phase continues as Jeff lays in a stain and starts to bring up the darkest values.
In this lesson Jeff begins with a full color palette and shows you quick, 10 minute compositional break-downs.
This continuation video takes us through the later values. Keep an eye on how the tiles are building off of the initial drawing.
Now that we have gained some momentum Jeff will work into the middle stages of the tiling process on this painting.
This lesson continues in the usual manner. The goal with this one is to not blend, but simply keep it completely in the tile phase. Make sure to pay attention to the shape design as Jeff works through this one.
This lesson will be our last painting of this phase. Watch as Jeff works out 3 different comps to determine the final composition.
In this lesson watch as I use various blending techniques to finish this effort.
