    Figure Drawing is essential. It is a core foundation of being a great representative artist. Through figure drawing you will learn so much about the various techniques that we employ at the school, such as angle measurements, comparative measurement and plumb lines, anatomy and more. In this introductory figure drawing phase, get ready for the basics of navigating the human form. Brian will take you through the  gesture, structure and mass as is relates to the figure, while introducing you to the Reilly method of figure drawing, showing how to utilize different rhythm lines and where to utilize them. Next, you will start to add structure to your figures, taking that initial gesture and making it three dimensional. The next series of demos will be adding light and shadow to the three dimensional forms, and at the end of this course Brian will delve into what it takes to bring a figure drawing to a finish with two rendered demos.

    Welcome to Quicksketch Fundamentals! This class will cover the basics that must be understood for the successful execution of figure quicksketch drawing.  This course will approach figure quicksketch by breaking down the discipline into three understandable principles: Gesture, Structure, and Mass.  By studying these three principles separately, students can then work to integrate them as a whole, and work their way towards mastering the art of quicksketch.

    Join Watts Atelier founder Jeff Watts and Atelier instructor Jim Hahn for the fifth phase in our figure drawing lessons.  In this Phase, Jim and Jeff will show the student how to approach a finished, polished, and fully rendered figure drawing.  This phase will build off of the solid concepts learned in earlier phases, and help the student learn the nuances of high-level rendering and shape design.  Working on a durable, archival surface with graphite, the process presented in these lessons is relaxing and leisurely, allowing the student to take their time and enjoy the journey as they render a complete figure in graphite.
